The Crazy Candle Lady thinks it’s time for a little update on how her candle no-buy is going.
If you didn’t see my original post on it, I am a confessed candle-hoarder. Fortunately for me, I also have many passions and hobbies. Unfortunately, my love of jar candles has been taking over far too much of my storage space. So back in September I committed to burning through 10 medium-to-large candles before I bought even one more.
I thought that I’d go through them a bit faster, to be honest, but I’m not doing too poorly! I’ve finished off the smallest two (the scent on these is one of my favorites, but about halfway through it started smelling musty. I kept burning it anyway, and after a few more burns it returned to its yummy fall wreath scent), a Pumpkin Waffles, my Hot Buttered Rum, Caramel Cinnamon Bun (no photo, by 719 Walnut Avenue at Walmart) and the two biggest which were, if I recall, 22oz each.
My thoughts on Hot Buttered Rum? It smelled nice. Sweet and caramelly, but it wasn’t as strong as some others.
I’m currently burning through a Spiced Apple Toddy (bath and body 14 oz) and it has a VERY strong throw. I can smell it through my whole house.
Altogether I’ve finished 7 candles and have 3 partially-burned candles to go.
One of my favorite scents, though, forced me to take unflattering photos of its leftovers. While these smelled great (can’t wait to rebuy!), I have never seen a candle leave so much soot. I could see it coming off the wicks and though I wiped out the jars (when not lit) a few times, this just kept happening. I attribute it to the height and narrowness of these jars (Yankee has repackaged this line, available at Target, in squat, square jars). Bottom line, it wasn’t attractive.
However, I did save the jars, clean them out and repurpose them.
On that note, Silhouette Sunday is scheduled to return this coming Sunday : )
